Jen was resident at The Premises studios in Hackney for 15+ years. She has taught in many prestigious schools and colleges around the UK including the world-class contemporary performing arts school; Artsed in London, preparing young performers for lives on the west end and broadway. Jen has taught many thousands of beginners, amateur singers and aspiring artists privately from all over the world.
THERAPEUTIC BUT NOT THERAPY
It is normal for emotions to come up in both singing lessons and coaching. We are all human. Our sessions are about freedom of expression. It’s important you know that you can ‘come as you are’. You can express your truth with no shame and Jen will support you through the ups and downs of moving towards your desires and goals. The hard conversations can be the most useful. If however, you or Jen feels that you may benefit from deeper support than a teacher/mentor/coach can provide it’s important you seek a qualified therapist, mental or medical care professional. Teaching/mentoring/coaching is not a substitute for counselling, psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, professional mental health or medical care, and can not to be used in place of any form of therapy. It is not intended to diagnose, treat or cure any mental health or medical conditions.Your teacher/mentor/coach is not a therapist.
CONFIDENTIALITY
Confidentiality of session content is agreed by teacher/Coach/mentor and client. Jen agrees to keep all client and session information strictly confidential except in very rare circumstances where decreed by law or where there is intent of seriously harm. In this circumstance a conversation will be had by Jen and client wherever possible. This confidentiality is reciprocal. Additionally participants agree to not share or distribute for free or for sale any session materials including any session recordings without prior written permission from Jen.
THE USE OF TECHNOLOGY
The client is aware that the use of technology is not always secure and they accept the risks of confidentiality in the use of email, text, phone, Skype and other technology. Client understands that if they use technology such as text/email/whatsapp to communicate with their teacher/coach/mentor, then their teacher/coach/mentor will assume this is an acceptable method of interaction and will continue to use.
YOUR HEALTH HISTORY
Clients agree to disclose details of any past or present psychological or psychiatric treatment to Jen before working together. Jen is only able to work with adults who are mentally well and capable of taking full responsibility for any decisions they make. This work is proactive and about taking action in the direction of your desires. If any mental health difficulties arise during the course of the coaching/teaching/mentoring relationship, it’s important you notify your teacher/coach/mentor immediately so that an appropriate plan of action can be discussed.
If you have previously experienced vocal trauma, seen an SLT or voice doctor or been advised to see one it’s important you let Jen know in advance of working together so it can be decided if voice coaching is right for you right now and if Jen is the right teacher for you right now. There is nothing to be gained by not following your doctors advice. It is sometimes possible to have voice coaching in conjunction with speech, language therapy.
CLIENT RESPONSIBILITY
In order to work with Jen you must be able to take full responsibility for your physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing, and any choices, decisions, or actions you decide to take.
OUTCOMES
Your teacher/mentor/coach cannot promise outcomes. You are ultimately responsible for your own success.
REFINING STRATEGY
Not all teaching/coaching/mentoring methods and mediums work for all clients and a course of trials and refinements may be required in order to find the best solutions. The client is invited to communicate openly with the teacher/coach/mentor in these situations. It’s the difficult discussions that enable success to happen.
TEACHING TEACHERS
Becoming a teacher is a beautiful calling. And Jen is a teacher or teachers. If this is of interest to you please reach out and have a discussion with Jen. However, the journey to become a teacher is much longer and much more in depth than the journey to become a singer. It is not appropriate to simply transfer the lessons you have had with Jen to another person without having had proper teacher training. The voice needs to be treated with great respect. All teachers coach based on what presents. Balancing exercises appropriate for you may not be the best choice for someone else. Jen has 25 years experience teaching and hundreds of teacher training hours under her belt. During exercises she is continually listening for vocal health and safety.
COMMUNICATION
If you’re running late drop me a whatsapp message. Phone signal is poor in the studio (we are well insulated!) but wifi/whatsapp is great. If I haven’t heard from you and you are more than 20mins late for your session I will assume you are not coming. I still love you and hope you’re ok.
General communications, please contact me via email (rather than phone) after 10pm and before 8am. I am known for my quick response.
If I contact you and you read the message, please let me know it’s received even if you are unable to reply properly until later.
PAYMENT POLICY
Payment should be made in advance on receipt of your invoice. Fees are generally charged per session in advance of the session. This gives both teacher/coach/mentor and client the ability to continually reflect on the benefits of the relationship.
Online coaching sessions require 48hrs notice of cancellation/rescheduling or the fee is due in full.
London studio sessions require 7 days notice of cancellation (E.g. Sat AM for the following Sat). If you cannot make your booking, after this period, you will be offered an online session in exchange, to be taken within 7 days. This is offered in kindness, at my discretion.
Clients who repeatedly advance book and cancel within the agreed notice period will forfeit the ability to advance book (as it stops other clients from being able to book).
We all get ill sometimes. If you have missed the cancellation notice period but are unwell, please do not come to the studio (e.g. if you are coughing/sneezing/blowing your nose). This ensures a healthy environment for all clients. Please accept an online session to be taken in exchange, offered in kindness, at my discretion.
REFUND POLICY
Sessions are non refundable.
TERMINATION
Client and coach/teacher/mentor both have the ability to terminate work together whenever either see fit as long as the sessions to date have been paid.
